In the post-Covid-19 era, remote collaboration has become the new norm in many workplaces, teaching and learning. Digital tools for communicating or performing shared tasks, although known and used before the crisis, have since expanded and adopted multiple formats. However, few of them seem to be relevant to the needs of the creative sector. In higher education, in art and design in particular, the use of tools that generally come from the "Silicon Valley" also raises questions about the logic of use that underlies this software.
This is the theme that the Digital Tools for Creative Collaboration project has been addressing since May 2021, through a collaboration between three institutions: the École supérieure d'art et design de Saint-Étienne (Esadse), Eesti Kunstiakadeemia (EKA) in Tallinn (Estonia) and the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) in Schwäbisch-Gmünd (Germany), as well as the European Bureau of Design Associations (BEDA) as an associated partner.

ArticleDigital Tools for Creative CollaborationHow to teach art and design digitally in post-covid era?

Through international workshops, collective meetings and discussions and joint creations, Digital Tools for Creative Collaboration has initiated various inter-school projects. Amongst those produced by Esadse, there is the creation of a "resource" and critical catalogue of online collaborative tools, the organisation of professional meetings between art & design schools (openschool.art), as well as several publications and experiments. In the continuity, each partner school took charge of a moment of public sharing of the project according to different modalities (presentations of projects resulting from the courses and workshops, conferences, etc.). The exhibition C'est toi et moi, de base (that can be translated as It's basically you and me) proposed by the Esadse Random(lab) at Le Magasin is one of these crystallisations in the form of international students' words linked to a collaborative video game developed especially for the occasion.

The exhibition at the Magasin consists of :
- video interviews with students from the three partner schools who take a critical look at the project and at the collaborative experience involving different working methodologies and design approaches ;
- The "bugs" programmed by the Esadse students that disrupt the videos;
- a collaborative 3D video game developed using free software (Blender 3D software and Godot game engine). This video game, similar to a walking simulator, invites two players to find each other on a map. To achieve this, they must speak to each other in order to share clues about their location.

Come and discover this playful experience:
- Monday 24 to Friday 28 April 2023 (1pm-7pm) at the Magasin
- inaugural night on Tuesday 25 April (until 9.30 pm)
