"Maison Soustraire" s'appuie sur l'hypothèse d'une réalité toute proche dans laquelle la baisse des moyens matériels transformera nos environnements domestiques et les objets qui les composent. Cette possibilité nous pousse à questionner les restes et les traces que produiraient des vies "anthropocènes".
Ce laboratoire propose d'investir une maison qui sera un lieu de vie expérimental où la matière constituant les objets sera amenée à disparaître progressivement, pour permettre la simulation d'un futur en pénurie. La designer Mathilde Pellé résidera dans cet habitat diminué ; elle sera à la fois actrice - en compagnie d'autres créateurs (permanents et invités) elle participera aux soustractions qui modifieront les objets - et aussi sujet : des chercheurs associés feront partie et accéderont au laboratoire pour y observer et étudier la transformation de l'environnement et les effets produits sur l' habitante et son quotidien. Les modes d'accueil seront définis afin de répondre de la meilleure façon aux besoins spécifiques de chaque étude portée. Ce laboratoire prendra place à Saint-Étienne, il impliquera la population stéphanoise en lui permettant de co-concevoir le protocole qui forcera la diminution de l' habitat et contraindra les créateurs tout au long de l'expérimentation. En ayant une influence directe sur l'évolution du lieu de vie, les stéphanois pourrons déployer les questions communes contenues dans le projet. La maison investie s'imagine comme un lieu de recherche pluridisciplinaire qui produira des objets et de la matière théorique et documentaire dans le but de faire apparaître et de questionner ce que pourrait être la réalisation matérielle de l'anthropocène dans l' habitat.

"Maison Soustraire" is based on the hypothesis of a close by reality in which the decline of material means will transform our domestic environments and the objects that compose them. This possibility pushes us to question the leftovers and archives that would produce "anthropocene" lives.
In order to allow the simulation of a future shortfall, the laboratory proposes to invest a house in Saint-Etienne which will serve as experimental living space where the materials that constitute the objects will gradually disappear. The designer Mathilde Pellé will reside in this diminished habitat. She will be both agent―in the company of other (permanent and invited) practitioners she will participate in the subtractions which will modify the objects―and subject of investigation: associated researchers will access the laboratory in order to observe and study the transformation of the living space and the effects produced to the residents' daily life.
Furthermore, the laboratory will involve people of Saint-Etienne by allowing them to co-design the protocol which will reduce objects and spaces and will therefore constrain the work of the designers throughout the experiment. The invested house is a place of multidisciplinary research which will produce objects as well as theoretical and documentary material with the aim of revealing and questioning what could be the material of the anthropocene.
